Should I Invest in Indian Real Estate in 2022?

Indian Real estate market to touch new heights in 2022Times of India

It’s definitely a good time to invest in real estate, as per research done by the Times of India.

The Indian real estate sector has been experiencing steady demand and growth through the first quarter of 2022. This growth is expected to continue through the rest of the year and we will see good market movement in both the residential and commercial space.

The Indian real estate sector from 2019 to 2021

2019 was seen as a rough patch for the real estate sector because of the Covid pandemic.

In 2021, however, even with the continued strain that Covid had on the market, the real estate sector slowly picked up the pace and closed on a high point. In fact, home sales rose 71% Y-O-Y (year-on-year), with 237,000 units sold in 2021, reaching 90% of the pre-Covid 2019 levels. (Source: Economic Times)

Moving into 2022

2022 is seeing even better growth.

The reason could be:

  1. People are now getting out of the ‘caution bubble’ that the pandemic created and they are more comfortable looking for houses (increasing demand)
  2. The number of properties for sale is going up as construction resumes post lockdowns (increasing supply)

With the demand and supply increasing, 2022 is poised to be a good year for the Indian real estate sector.

What about Omicron and other strains?

Despite fears related to the Omicron crisis, the market in 2022 looks bullish and demand is accelerating fast across categories says Financial Express.

Even though the cases seem to be increasing across the country, we are now better prepared to face the challenge.

  1. The government is better prepared and lockdowns will only be imposed as a last resort. Since hospitals and the people, in general, are taking precautions, it will probably not come to that.
  2. Realtors, real estate companies, and builders are better prepared to serve clients without putting either party at risk, through digital mediums.
  3. The initial panic and dread of Covid has gone. Most people are vaccinated and also know what precautions to take, so they are confident enough to go out and look for properties. The demand is therefore predicted to stay stable.

The real estate sector, much like other economic markets, is poised to be able to tackle any other strain.

So should you invest in Indian real estate, in 2022?
